Jay's Post

My class has been hatching chicks. It has been lots of fun. It wasn't too long ago that we got the chicken eggs. The first step was to incubate them. We gave them plenty of water and plenty of heat. We started with twelve eggs, it took 21 days until they hatched. On day nine we candled the eggs so we could see if the chicks were alive or not. We discovered that all but three were alive. The last few days we had to keep the incubator closed so that the chicks would be able to break through the shells. On day 20 the first one hatched. We named it Early Bird. During the night two more hatched. The next night one more hatched and then all the rest hatched. One of the chicks hatched with yolk still on it. It's name was Lucky. Lucky died. All the others lived, their names are: Dottie, Spotty, Tiger, Moon Drop, Brownie, Fudge, and I forgot the name of the last one. It has been a week since the chicks have hatched. They are all doing well and have tail feathers, grown-up feathers, and bigger wings. They kind of make a lot of noise now. Sometimes they distract us when we are doing our work. We gave them away on Friday. Three are going to a farm and one is going to one of Mrs. Hoff's students and four are going to my friend Zeke's house.

This is me holding Tiger. Behind me is the chick calendar.

These are all eight chicks.
The first egg we opened, that did not hatch. This is a picture of one of the eggs that didn't make it.
This is a picture of Early Bird.

Grandma!

Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!

My Handsome Boys!

1 Peter 2:20-25

This past Sunday, the first grade CCD class led the Mass.
Jay was selected to read the second reading.
A Reading from First Peter:
Beloved: If you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this is a grace before God.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps.
He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.
When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.
He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross,so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness.
By his wounds you have been healed.
For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.
The Word of the Lord.

Take me out to the ball game...

It's baseball season! Jay is playing coach pitch baseball now.
He definitely has his eye on the ball.
Nice hit Babe!
Nick is the assistant coach/pitcher. I wonder what he is thinking here...
"Now...where did that ball go?"
Jay is looking alert out there in left field.
Grandma was here for his first game.
Soon.
Yeah! The Cardinals won!!!
(So did the other team)

Glorious Spring?

My North Carolina friends are probably having a good laugh right now, seeing as the whole time I lived there all I did was complain about the heat. "I just want four seasons...WAH, WAH, WAH!" Well, its now spring and here are our April showers...

...poor May flowers.
